OZARK HIGHLANDS TRAIL ARKANSAS
187 miles. This fine National Recreation Trail leads through some rather remote Ozark scenery in northwest Arkansas. It crosses Ozark National Forest, leading from Fort Smith State Park northeast to the Buffalo National River. The trail passes over mountains, with some fine views, and leads through oak-hickory forests. Difficulty varies from easy to strenuous.
Camping Regulations: Except for the westernmost six miles of the trail, camping is allowed along the way, as are campfires. No permits are required. Campsites should be at least 200 feet from water sources and the trail.
