Or you can trust Mine, who discovered that the vast majority of this stock is factory-refurbished, and therefore virtually new, but selling for anywhere from 20% to 50% below the original retail price. Recent specials included an AST multimedia desktop system, a Pentium version with similar features, and an Apple Performa system, all easily $300-$500 less than the going department store rates at the same time.
Inkjet printers from Apple go as low as $199, while laser printers can be had for $299. A library of color notebooks, including active-matrix screens, carry a six-month factory warranty; Vision’s own refurbished laptops from Toshiba and IBM (as low as $645) offer 90-day warranties. Vision does a little bit of everything, according to one employee, including networking, configurations, and all types of repairs. Navigate a sea of industrial parks to track them down, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

With less in the way of computers but more in the way of accessories, you can pick up salvaged transformers, converters, and the like for $3 from open trays lining the aisles; used keyboards cost as little as $25. Package deals may take you all the way back to a Packard Bell 286 system, without a monitor, for $299 (but you can grab one for $50 more), or a classic old IBM system (with a big 5 floppy drive) for $185 complete.
