NA PALI COAST STATE PARK
Located along the coast of the island of Kauai, scenic Na Pali Coast State Park features high rugged cliffs with outstanding views, narrow valleys, streams with waterfalls and pools, and beautiful sand beaches.
Activities: There’s one trail for hiking and backpacking, the 11-mile Kalalau Trail, which follows
a hilly and sometimes steep route along the coastlineup over cliffs and down through valleysand dead-ends at a beach. Shorter side trails lead up three of the valleys. Limited hunting is allowed in the park.
Camping Regulations: Three designated camping areas are found along the Kalalau Trail, and camping is restricted to these sites. Maximum stay is five nights. Two consecutive nights are not allowed at two of the camping areas. Group size is limited to 10.
Before entering, a free permit must be obtained by mail or in person from the state park office (address page 139). Permit applications must be received at least a month in advance from May through September, or seven days in advance at other times.
