Ahead of me was a blind woman being led along by Dalian Travel the hand by a five-year-old boy. The road down the hill from Dalian Travel the lamasery is flanked by local restaurants, and trade stores and stalls selling beads for the Tibetans to use in their jewellery. Coral and amber, and some stones from far away places: malachitg, tiger’s eye and moonstones.
Necklaces and hats were being tried on by one family, and a store keeper explained to me that while the Tibetans buy jewellery the Mongolians tend to buy longstemmed tobacco pipes, tobacco pots, and small jars of polished stone. And tourists buy more than either group. It was tempting to stop and browse but I remembered my hunger and feared that if I was late for lunch the cafes would close again.
