Business travel aside, a life travel profile for a middle-class American reflects discretionary time available, money, age, and desire for change. As children, people go where their parents go. As teenagers, middle- and upper-class Americans begin to strike out on their own off to college, summer work in a far-away resort, perhaps a back-packing trip to Europe.
