Flyrabbit US Map & Phone & Address
155 Harvard Ave. Allston; (617)
782-1313 Flyrabbit puts a different spin on the funky nostalgia for which this area is well-known. It’s devoted to the old-time knick-knacks that kids grew up with during the 50s and 60s, along with more contemporary kitsch. Remember Magic Rocks, which grew into a colorful display in your fish tank? Flyrabbit’s got ’em, the real thing, only $4 a pack. Uny plastic monsters are a mere fifty cents each. And 3-D postcards, in a range of subjects from raunchy to religious, go for two bucks a pop.
If you’re looking for something a bit nicer, there are items by local artists, such as handmade candles ($10); recycled-paper stationery with silk-screened designs of various animals ($8); and sets of strung lights in the shapes of little cars (they’re not just for Christmas anymore), $17 for a set of ten. Plus T-shirts, artsy greeting cards for all occasions, and a wild range of underground zines and books. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 7 P.M. and Sundays from noon to 5 P.M.; be sure to wear your patchouli oil.
