Until the Uptown Amphitheater opened at the North Carolina Music Factory in 2009, the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater was the only all-outdoor concert venue in Charlotte. It opened in 1991 to host major musical acts, and has stadium seats and general admission lawn seating. The amphitheater got its 15 minutes of fame when Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran took the stage in 2005 and referred to the city as Charlotte, Virginia.
The Annapolis Convention (a precursor to the Constitutional Convention the Alington Metro Map following year) is called to reform interstate trade regulations. Massachusetts farmers led by Daniel Shays attempt Alington Metro Map to take over an arsenal at Springfield, Massachusetts, on January 25, but they fail. The group, angered by a lack of paper money, high taxes, and fear of debtor’s prison, leads a short rebellion, which forces many people to view the Articles of Confederation as an inefficient and problematic governmental system. In February, the Continental Congress calls for another meeting in May to revise the Articles of Confederation. In May, delegates convene in Philadelphia to discuss the revisions; George Washington is elected to preside over the Constitutional Convention. Edmund Randolph presents the Virginia Plan to the Convention, calling for a bicameral legislature with representation based upon population.
