Right across the street from Hahvahd Yalhd, HBS gets high marks for its thorough inventory. In addition to current titles at full-price, there are two discount options here first, a good-sized table of remainders, ranging from bestsellers to literary collections. These, as in many stores, sell for anywhere from 50% to 80% off. The store also picks fifty notable new releases for a 20% discount each month.
Downstairs in the basement, though this is the place to be for any book lover. The used book department has almost as much selection as the main level’s regular shelves or those of any other book store, for that matter. Arts, politics, science, novels mostly paperbacks, all sold at half the cover price. Used textbooks are 25% off. For students, and any readers on a budget, this is a must. Open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 11 P.M. Sundays from 12-8.

Following the lead of the big chains, all New York Times bestsellers are 25% off, with a 10% reduction for NYT best-selling paperbacks. Furthermore, several long tables of remainders are always stacked with books on just about any subject, at up to 80% off the original prices. Great for browsing. Anne Rice’s Lasher was glimpsed, not long after its general release, marked down from $25 to just $4.98. Open daily; hours vary by branch.
