Honeymoon in Maui

The sparks were instantaneous when friends introduced me to a hilarious redhead I absolutely had to meet.’ David works in real estate and I teach high school English in Atlanta. After dating for two years, he proposed, and we knew our wedding had to be in Maui, where my parents own a vacation home in the Kapalua Resort on the northwest shore of Maui.

The community offers beautiful wedding venues, but we preferred a small ceremony in my parents’ backyard, catered by The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua. We chose planner Hawaii Weddings by Tori Rogers; she had become a family friend while planning my twin sister’s big day. Most of our 40 guests stayed at The Ritz and the Bay Condos on the resort grounds, where zip lines, hiking trails, beaches and golf kept them happily occupied. Out-of-towners attended a rehearsal dinner at Lahaina Grill.

Just before sunset on the big day, all our guests gathered for a poolside ceremony combining our Jewish traditions with Hawaiian wedding customs. During cocktail hour, passed hors d’oeuvres included kalua-pork empanadas and opakapaka (snapper) ceviche sesame cones. Guests then enjoyed a poolside sit-down dinner of grass-fed filet as Omar and Rare Vibrations entertained. Sparks flew again in the magic-hour light at the end of a day we’ll never forget in this beautiful end-of-the-earth place.
