CALCAREOUS VINEYARD The owners and staff at Calcareous Vineyard invite visitors Jersey City Metro Map to come for the wine and stay for the sense of place, a compelling offer of liquid Jersey City Metro Map art and authentic landscape. Named after the chalky soil that distinguishes its west side terroir, the hilltop winery features a thick lawn dotted with tables and chairs, an official bocce ball court, and a stunning panorama of hills, oaks, and sky. With glass walls made of accordion doors that can be collapsed to admit air and even more light, the tasting room serves as a fitting showcase for both the lush wines and the site’s considerable attributes.
Inside, stone pillars contrast with the mahogany hues of the open-beamed ceiling and tasting bar, and the open floor space allows plenty of room for mingling with other tasters, browsing the display tables, or catching the endless view. The tasting room opened in 2008, after a smaller one in the winery proved to be too limited, and was named Lloyd’s Lookout, in honor of Lloyd Messer, the winery’s visionary cofounder. Messer was a traveling man whose Iowa-based beer and wine distributing business frequently brought him to Paso Robles, where he enjoyed rubbing elbows with area winemakers and dreaming about a different kind of life.
