Need a break downtown on a busy Thursday? Duck into this church for a serene hour of music in a magnificent setting. Concerts are given every Thursday from 12:15 P.M. to 1:15 P.M. with a season running from early October to the end of May. Most often, you’ll be listening to organ music; usually, one concert a month features a different type of performance, either instrumental or vocal. All of these are free of charge; freewill donations are encouraged, but not required.
For a similar musical experience, Trinity Church Organ Recitals take place on the massive pipe organ at this historic church in Copley Square (comer of Boylston and Clarendon Streets). Musicians from the Boston area, and from as far away as England and Russia, perform each Friday from 12:15 P.M. to 1 p.m. Concerts take place from September through May; admission is by donation. This grand old church just below Coolidge Comer runs its ongoing concert series on selected Sunday afternoons throughout the year. Concerts have included selections for flute and piano. Tickets are $6; $3 for children, students, and senior citizens. Save by purchasing a six-concert subscription for $30.
