Ciudad del Este has variety of dining options that can’t be found in other parts of the country. For those that have already spent significant amount of time in Paraguay the city’s ethnic restaurants are a welcome break from empanadas and lomitos. Some of the best food can be found at hole-in-the-wall restaurants. As with lodging food prices are higher than in the rest of the country.

Restaurante Al Manara A great place to sample Ciudad del Este’s middle-eastern fare. Select your dish using the picture menu on the wall but remember that it is easy to over order. Two dishes can easily feed up to three or four people. Hummus, pita, and garlic sauce are musts. Brazilian-style food is also available as are hookahs with a selection of flavored shisha tobacco. Gugu’s Restaurante Chino Gugu’s has the best Chinese food in town and the locals know it, as proven by the lunch crowds. Show up early to beat the rush. A fun photo menu takes the guess work out of ordering. Frosty shaved ice drinks are delicious as beverages to accompany your meal (try the passion fruit or mbaracuya) or as desserts (try the peanut chocolate). New Tokio One of the few places in landlocked Paraguay offering high quality Japanese food. Lunch service includes a buffet and a la carte options but sushi lovers will prefer the all you can eat sushi and sashimi specials at dinner. Churrasquena Patussi’s Grill One of Ciudad del Este’s most popular Brazilian style churrasquerias located a short distance from the commercial sector. The meat just keeps on coming so make sure to go with an empty stomach. They usually have or are willing to make some sort of pasta dish for vegetarians. Bovolos Baker’s Shop A simple cafeteria tucked away in the commercial sector. Savory options include pastas and sandwiches and baked goods include brownies, muffins, macaroons and cakes. Cafe Mona Lisa Take a break from shopping for electronics to enjoy something from the Mona Lisa cafe’s extensive drink menu which includes iced coffees, hot coffees and cocktails.
