Nightlife in Barcelona needs no introduction: Whether you’re looking for psychedelic absinthe shots, a great place for grunge rock, a sunrise foam party, or just someplace quiet to sit back and enjoy a drink, the city has it all. In this neighborhood, cookie-cutter cervecerias and bar-restaurantes can be found every five steps. The Barri Gotic is perfect for chit-chatting your night away, sipping sangria, or scoping out your next dance partner.

Molly’s Fair City, C. Ferran 7. M: Liceu. The place to go if you’re looking to meet English-speaking tourists in the Barri Gotic, guzzling pricey but strong mixed drinks. Guinness on tap ‚5. Bottled beer ‚4. Mixed drinks ‚7. Open Su-Th 8pm-2:30am, F-Sa 7pm-3am.

Jamboree, PI. Reial 17. M: Liceu. In the corner immediately to your right coming from Las Ramblas. What was once a convent now serves as one of the city’s most popular live music venues. Daily jazz or blues performances. Cover M-F ‚6, Sa-Su ‚9-12; includes 1 drink. Open daily llpm-lam. Upstairs, the attached club Tarantos hosts flamenco shows (‚25). Open M-Sa 9:30pm-midnight.

Schilling, C. Ferran 23. M: Liceu, L3. One of the more chill and spacious bars in the area. Mixed gay and straight crowd. Excellent sangria (pitcher ‚14). Mixed drinks ‚5. Wine and beer ‚2. Open daily 10am-2:30am.

Vildsvin, C. Ferran 38, M: Liceu. Oysters and international beers (‚4-8) are the specialties at this Norwegian bar. Tapas ‚3-5. Desserts ‚3.50-5. Entrees ‚8-14. Open M-Th 9am-2am, F-Sa 9am-3am. AmExMCV.

El Bosq de les Fades, (933 17 26 49). M: Drassanes, near the Wax Museum. This bar is a mystical, complete with gnarly trees and gnomes. A good place to hang before hitting up a club. Open M-Th 10am-l:30am, F-Sa 10am-2:30am.

Glaciar Bar, PI. Reial 3. M: Liceu. A hidden treasure in a sea of indistinguishable tourist bars. Plenty of outside tables. Beer ‚1.50-2. Mixed drinks ‚4. Liter of sangria ‚10. Open Su 8am-2:30am, M-Sa 4pm-2:30am. Cash only.

New York, C. Escudellers 5. M: Drassanes. Once a strip joint, New York is now the biggest club in the Barri Gotic. Crowds don’t arrive until after 3am; music includes reggae and British pop. Cover ll:30pm-2am ‚6 (includes 1 beer); 2-5am ‚13 (includes any drink). Open Th-Sa midnight-5am. Cash only.

Palau Dalmases, C. Montcada 20. M: Jaume I. A self-labeled Baroque space in a 17th-century palace. Live opera performances Th at 11pm (‚18, includes one drink). Drinks ‚6-10. Open Su 6-10pm, Tu-Sa 10pm-2am.

Pltin Bar, Pg. del Born 34. M: Barceloneta. Trippy lounge music will put you in the mood for absinthe (‚2.70). Mixed drinks ‚4.50-8. Open daily 6pm-3am.

These streets are densely packed with a place for every variety of bar-hopper Irish pubbers, American backpackers, absinthe aficionados, social drinkers, lounge lizards, and foosball maniacs will find themselves at home in El Raval. it Casa Almirall, C. Joaquim Costa 33. M: Universitat. This cavernous space, with weathered couches, is Barcelona’s oldest bar, founded in 1860. La Paloma, C. Tigre 27. M: Universitat. This dance hall, with its theater-like interior, was a factory until 1903.
