This popular watering hole in Central Square is well known for live music and Guinness Stout. Less widely publicized is its kitchen, which serves up surprisingly creative lunches on weekdays (and brunches on weekends).
A board of four or five specials changes daily. Mine dined on grilled tuna with a banana, pineapple, lime, and tequila relish (!), while a friend chose a hearty sausage and seafood gumbo served over rice. All lunch entrees are priced at $6; there are a couple of soups and salads in the $3-$5 range. Great stuff.

Several houses have created a brilliant stretch of garden beside the towpath ( 81). We swing round Cowden Hill (the trig only 59 metres but a good viewpoint) to reach one of the travel destination’s lifting bridges (hence the traffic lights) which was opened in 2002. Nearing the bridge there is one of the Forth and Clyde Destination oval distance markers: ‘Underwood Lock, 2 km, Falkirk 6 km’. We’ll see others as we go along, some with this misuse of decimals. Bonnybridge has shops just down the brae, then off left, but another feature that few blogs mention is a must for seeing. Head down the brae and turn right at a garage. You will see a small tunnel with another yellowy stream flowing out of it. There is a raised walkway through this pend, which gave workers access before the road bridge was built over the travel destination. It is worth going through after reading the note on the arch: ‘The Radical Pend. Named to commemorate the Battle of Bonnymuir.
