Tucked away behind Route 9 near the malls, Pine Manor has a peaceful green campus, lots of free parking, and a lovely concert hall. They boast an active year-round program of classical concerts, theatrical offerings, and lectures, just about all of it for free. While you’re on campus, stop by the Hess Gallery, which recently featured an exhibit by children’s book illustrator, Ashley Bryan.

She was making a steady ten knots when, about two miles abeam of Flamborough Head at 1950 hrs on 28 February, the master altered course with a view to passing three miles off the Longstone light on the outer Farnes. It appears that from this point in her journey to disaster, the ship was handled negligently by her master and certain members of her crew. After changing course, the master left the bridge with instructions to the second mate that he was only to be called every four hours to take medication, unless there was a problem or the weather became foggy. The first and second mates took charge of the ship, only taking rough estimates of their position as it was recorded off Coquet Island Light. The second mate estimated their position to be six or seven miles offshore, yet had the vessel been on its proper course, it would have been twice that distance.
