For a small store, this longtime favorite packs a lot in plenty of records, tapes, and CDs. Like anything in Kenmore Square, rock is king here but Planet is also strong in soul, jazz, and R & B.
A couple of years ago it looked like they were getting out of vinyl, going mainly with CDs. But that’s not proven to be the case. Instead, they expanded the store by one-third; and, to make the used LPs more attractive, most are hand-labeled with a sound quality rating (8.5 out of 10). Great idea.
Most good or new LPs are priced around $4 to $8. Planet also has a good variety of imports, rare LPs and special sets. Singles, including lots of oldies, are 490 to $2.99. And then there’s the vintage stuff, kitschy albums from the fifties and sixties it’s hilarious just to look at the covers.
Many cassettes are $4 and $5, and CDs are usually $7 to $9. Open daily from 10 A.M. to 8 P.M. Fridays and Saturdays til 9, Sundays 12-7.
