San Mauro Park and statue

There is a shaded park with benches and fountain in the square. On your right is the remarkably poignant statue of the emigrant (that other pilgrim) forced to leave his homeland. It is a masterpiece in evocative sculpture.

0.9 km ALBERGUE / NEGREIRA WW Opened in the summer of 2001. All modem facilities with 32 Beds and additional overflow spaces and suelos (mattresses on the floor). Excellent ladies and gents showers and toilets. Small well equipped kitchen. Dining and reception areas. Open all year and the warden (hospitalero) lives opposite.

It is a measure of the increasing interest in the Way to Finisterre that in the first 3 months of its opening it sheltered over 1,000 pilgrims. Half were Spanish and 12 other nationalities were registered. In one of the many enigmas of this wonderful country the hostal was completed in 1999, in time for the millennium celebrations, but remained closed for several years because it had no water sup ply! And this in a land where rain, at any time of year, is in overabundan supply. Life is full of paradox.
