Last year the some 5.7 million guests consumed 720,139 barbecued chickens, 72 oxen roasted whole on the spit, 320,338 pairs of pork sausages and gallons of beer, of which 14,661 gallons were nonalcoholic. But. eating and drinking well is not everything. Roller coasters, merry-go-rounds, bumper cars – to mention but a few of the many attractions – provide the background to the proverbial Oktoberfest merriment. The spirited music of brass bands in the beer tents is just as much a part of the Oktoberfest atmosphere as the smell of burnt almonds, Turkish halvah and gingerbread hearts.

The Oktoberfest – connoisseurs say – is something you cannot describe, you have to experience it for yourself.
