Strawberries Underground Boston US Map & Phone & Address
38 J.F.K. St. Cambridge; (617) 354-6232
This Harvard Square branch of the local chain is a regular Strawberries on one side, and their overstock clearance outlet on the other. Turn right as you enter the store, and you’ll find a small but interesting selection of bargain CDs like the Steve Miller Band’s classic Living in the 20th Century for $7.99, the average price for these discs. Cassette tapes go for $2.99 and $3.99 again, with groups you’re likely to have actually heard of.
In addition, this Strawb’s buys and sells used CDs, unusual for a commercial chain. These tend to be priced from $2.99 to $7.99, which was the price spotted for a copy of Nirvana’s In Utero. They even have some deals on VHS concert videos. Open seven days, including weeknights.
A few doors closer into the square, Discount Records is a tiny, longtime fave hangout at 18 J.F.K. St. (telephone 492-4064). They do not in fact sell records anymore, but they always have lots of the latest releases on sale (CDs $11.99, tapes $7.99). Students also get a 15% discount on non-sale music.
