The Lanesborough London

Everything is understated luxury at The Lanesborough, from the welcome you receive on entering the hotel to the experience that awaits you taking tea in Apsleys, the beautiful glass-roofed restaurant, with its elegant decor and surroundings. The tables are set with crisp linen and bone china, gentle piano music adds to the relaxing atmosphere, and the staff are attentive and courteous. Both of the set teas include the most appetizing finger sandwiches and bite-sized quiches, scones and miniature toasted tea cakes, as well as individual tea breads and scrummy pastries. Try some of the wonderful homemade lemon curd on your scone for a real burst of flavour. For even more of a treat have the Belgravia Tea, which starts off with strawberries and cream, and a glass of Champagne or a Kir Royal if you prefer. Drinking tea here is exceptionally worthwhile, for The Lanesborough was the first London hotel to engage a Tea Sommelier, who not only tastes their teas every day to ensure quality and consistency of flavour, but is there to share his expertise and guide you in your choice of leaf. The list might include Bohea Lapsang Souchong, Golden Darjeeling Okayti Estate, and a rare White Assam as well as their exclusive Afternoon Blend, consisting of Darjeeling, finest China Keemum and whole rose buds. Only leaf tea is served here, but there is not a tea strainer in sight. The secret lies in the strainer ingeniously fitted inside the silver teapot. So, whether you are exhausted from a day’s shopping in nearby Knightsbridge or just want to relax, unwind or treat yourself to a glorious afternoon tea in beautiful surroundings, Apsleys is to be highly recommended.
