History of Tomamae

Tomamae was first settled by the Ainu people in the 14th century. It was later annexed by the Japanese in the 17th century and became a prosperous trading town. In the 20th century, Tomamae was heavily damaged by the Great Kanto Earthquake and the Second World War. However, it has since rebuilt and is now a popular tourist destination.
