First of all, tell the airline personnel at the airport that you are a cruise passenger and that you’re sailing that day. They may be able to put you on a different flight. Second, call the cruise line to advise them of your delay your cruise documents should include an emergency delay number. Keep in mind that you may not be the only person delayed, and the line just may hold the ship until your arrival. Delays due to weather and unexpected mechanical issues are why we strongly recommend flying in to your port of embarkation at least 1 day prior to your cruise.

For the first dive, we drove down to Easdale Island and motored out to some rocks in the middle, just past Cuan Sound between Luing and Torsa islands. The water was crystal clear and there was a four-knot current running, with the depth showing just five metres. To my dismay, though, nobody wanted to dive as the boozy evening entertainment seemed more important. I moaned on so much that the Diving officer said I could go in by myself, on condition that I held onto the anchor rope. With no hesitation I quickly donned my gear and went down the line and was happy just sitting on the bottom amongst some huge, waving kelp fronds, watching some little spider crabs ambling around. The ‘dive’, though, was shortlived: the anchor line was dragged out of my hand and one of the guys came down and told me to get up. on the next two dives I was taken to depths of over 35 metres and on the third dive found myself abandoned when one of the most experienced club members twice lost consciousness during the ascent. I surfaced far too fast from 30 metres and was left with air bubbles crackling in my neck. They lasted for many weeks and the memories have haunted me ever since, but the intensive training to which I was subjected in that club certainly never did me any lasting harm. In fact, it probably helped me out of one or two tricky situations over the next 30 years.
