KULA AND KAHIKINUI FOREST RESERVES
These two forest reserves stand next to Haleakala National Park on the island of Maui. Terrain here ranges from hilly to mountainous and rugged, with elevations from 6,000 to 7,000 feet.
Included are mixed forests of cedar and pine, redwood and ash, plus groves of fruit trees and some grasslands. Wildlife in the reserves includes wild goat and wild pig.
Activities: Backpacking and hiking are possible on more than 30 miles of trails. Seasonal hunting is allowed in the reserves.
Camping Regulations: Camping is limited to several trail shelters and established camping areas. A permit must first be obtained from the Division of Forestry office in order to camp here. Maximum stay allowed is two nights per site.
