Reservations are normally essential, especially from spring through fall, as the number of requests far exceeds available permits. Dates and daily itinerary must be specified in advance. It’s necessary to pick up the permit in person upon arriving.
Camping is restricted to designated sites in some parts of the canyon. In other areas it’s possible to choose your own site, which must be at least 100 feet from water sources. Campfires are prohibited, so a stove must be used for cooking. Pets are not allowed.
Those who camp in the canyon should keep in mind that the climb back to the rim is very long and strenuous, with little water or shade along the way. Spring and fall are the best times to visit. Summer is not recommended due to the often intense heat in the canyon.

In New York, popular disapproval of the law is equally intense. The royal governor decides to send the East India tea back to England immediately after its landing in New York City. New York’s Sons of Liberty have different plans, however. The first East India vessel arrives on April 19, 1774; three days later, a group of colonists, again disguised as Mohawk Indians, board the ship and dump its cargo overboard as had patriots in Boston the year before.
