In 1989 the Haas family, East Coast wine importers with fifty years of experience, partnered with the Perrins, proprietors of Chateauneuf du Pape’s Chateau de Beaucastel since 1909, to establish an estate winery with vines sourced from the Perrins’ renowned vineyard in France. Robert Haas first met the late Jacques Perrin in 1967 while in Europe scouting for vintages to import to his father’s Manhattan wine shop. It took Perrin three years to agree to a deal, but so successful was the arrangement that, after Perrin’s death, his sons named Haas their exclusive United States importer.
