ECHO RIVER & HERRIMAN LAKE
From here, the trail descends to Knute Lake where a short spur leads to a campsite on the lake shore that makes a good rest stop. Just beyond Knute Lake, the trail returns to the Little Vermilion Lake Trail.

MILES DESCRIPTION
0.0 This hike begins on the Little Vermilion Lake Trail on the east side of County Road 424, opposite the parking area. The trail ascends a short distance along the south edge of a recently logged area. In 425 feet, you come to the self-serve permit station.
0.5 Bridge over the Echo River. A hundred feet beyond the bridge is the intersection with the Echo River Trail on the right and the start of the circuit portion of this hike. Turn right onto the Echo River Trail and ascend a ridge along the east side of the river.
1.6 Trail intersection with the Herriman Lake Loop Trail. After a short, moderately steep ascent away from the river, the south end of the Herriman Lake Loop Trail bears off to the left. Continue on the Echo River Trail to the right.
1.7 The trail enters a clearing and continues just below the beaver dam. On the other side of the clearing, the trail bears left and ascends a ridge via switchbacks. Pay close attention to the rock cairns that mark the way across rock outcroppings.
