Typical offerings from the open sandwich menu include smoked salmon, Curitiba Map prawn, tuna, honey roast ham and cottage cheese. There is a good selection of jacket Curitiba Map potatoes including prawn, tuna, cheese and ham; you may instead opt for my favourite at Clinch’s, a mini quiche, with an imaginative side salad to accompany it. Puddings are plentiful, with sticky toffee pudding, banoffi, fruit crumble and apple pie to choose from on the day of my visit, or you might opt for a slice of cake, which might perhaps be carrot, chocolate or coffee, or a house speciality, Duke Of Cambridge, consisting of dried fruit and nut with caramel topping: unusual but delicious.
Emerging from Clinch’s, you follow Guildhall Street to its end and turn left into North Street, following it all the way down to the Cross. This overlaps a little with ground you’ve already covered, but you will enjoy the Georgian architecture all the way down. Look out for two gems on the right, namely the flint-built Fernleigh Centre, and the eighteenth-century building occupied by Arthur Purchase with its splendid cantilevered first-floor bay window.
