Known as much for its Italian fare as it is for its 1,000-bottle wine cellar, Arooji’s also treats its diners to live music twice a week. It has its own wine bar with a faux wine cave and wooden racks throughout the restaurant are chock-full of wines from across the globe. Arooji’s fine-tunes its menu as the seasons change; staples among the simple yet tasteful dishes include eggplant parmesan and pollo alfredo. Cafe tables outside offer a more casual atmosphere than the main dining area inside with its expansive windows, vaulted ceilings, and white linen tablecloths.

1526 Ayll³n undertakes an even larger voyage and establishes a short Durham Map -lived colony somewhere on the South Carolina or Georgia coast. Five hundred men and women leave Durham Map Hispaniola, but only 150 return. His flagship, carrying most of the supplies, sinks. Bringing horses, pigs, and war dogs (mastiffs), de Soto and his army move through the entire Southeast (ten future states) from 15391543, searching for treasure. At Cofitachequi, de Soto meets the female chief, or Lady of Cofitachequi. Although he finds the pearls collected by the Native Countrys to be irregular and inferior, he orders his men to remove around 200 pounds of them from ceremonial burial complexes, some from the body cavities of deceased natives. De Soto’s trip through South Carolina results in epidemics and bitterness among the region’s native peoples.
