Escalon is a city in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 13,858 at the 2010 census.

The city was founded in 1878 by Charles E. Escalon, a pioneer settler from New York. The town was originally called “Escalon Springs” after the nearby springs. In 1880, the town was renamed “Escalon” after its founder.

Escalon was incorporated as a city in 1890. The city’s economy is based on agriculture, manufacturing, and retail trade.

Escalon is located about 20 miles east of Modesto and 60 miles west of Stockton. The city is served by Interstate 580 and State Route 120.
