One can discover forty centuries of human creativity at The Art Institute of Chicago, one of the worlds leading museums. From ancient Chinese bronzes to the latest work by todays artists, from Rembrandt paintings to African woodcarvings, the collections include some of the finest art ever produced. On display are paintings, sculpture, prints and drawings, photographs, Asian art. art of Africa and the Americas, textiles, decorative arts, and architectural fragments and drawings. Woods celebrated American Gothic . Especially noteworthy is the collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist pictures, with many examples by Monet, Renoir, Degas, van Gogh, and otherpainters of the period. Additional highlights include a large and distinguished collection of prints and drawings, the recently opened Galleries of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Art; 68 European and American Thorne Miniature Rooms: 1.000 glass paperweights from the Rubloff Collection; and the historic Trading Room designed by Adler and Sullivan, reconstructed from the original Chicago Stock Exchange Bui.ding. The Institute mounts approximately 25 temporary exhibitions each year, many of which are concurrent. It otters free public programs conducted by the Department of Museum Education. The Art Institute organizes its collection among the following curatorial departments: Airican and Amerindian Art. Architecture, Asian Art, American Arts, European Painting, European Decorative Arts and Sculpture and Classical Art. Photography. 20th-century Painting and Sculpture, Textiles, and Prints and Drawings. “Voices” presentations, which bring the world of the artist to life, are offered even- Thursday at noon.
