Stamford Raffles was the founder of modern Singapore and today we’re tracing his footsteps at his landing site. Raffles saw such great potential in this area he made an agreement with the Sultan to start free trade. Raffles Hotel is Singapore’s oldest hotel, it’s also the most well-known icon. It’s time for the famous High Tea here at the Raffles Hotel, and they’ve started us with some sandwiches, some cakes, and some tarts, and of course some tea. Heavenly. The Long Bar here at the Raffles Hotel was where the Singapore Sling was created. You have to try one of these.

Thank you so much. And now, for the last part of the tour, a cruise down the Singapore River on the boat. Cruising along the Singapore River, you see the Colonial buildings on one side and the modern skyscrapers on the other. We’re just passing the famous Merlion and it’s called that because it has the face of a lion and the tail of a mermaid. So Clarke Quay is the hip and happening part of Singapore because of its nightlife and its restaurants. From High Tea to a cruise along the Singapore River, today has been a great day to learn about Raffles and his role in Singapore history.
