California is renowned for its surf culture, and today, I get to hit the waves too with a private surf lesson.

So, longboarding is all about swagger. Shoo. Yeah. Think step-by-step when you’re standing up, rather than full picture. So, Jackson, my surf instructor, just gave me all the tools that I need to start hitting the waves. I learned how to stand on the board, how to get up on the board. We learned about the nose, the tail, the stringer, some safety moves in case I come flying off, which I definitely will, but at least I feel safe enough to get out there and I’ll give it a go.
So, time to get suited up and hit some waves. Ready!
Let’s do it. The hardest part was actually getting in and out of the water with the board, but once you’re in the water, you just paddle out there, ride over some of the waves that are rolling in, then your instructor helps you flip the board around, and then, catch the wave, commit, envision yourself standing up, and away you go. And then you fall off.
One thing that I just had to keep reminding myself was that I was out there surrounded by a lot of children, and if the young kids could do it, then I had nothing to be afraid of. So I survived my first ever surf lesson, and that’s all thanks to Jackson and the guys at Aqua Surf. You gotta come back and do it again. I would love to come back and do it again. Thank you so much. Thank you.
