II. History of Seelyville, Indiana

Seelyville was founded in 1839 by John Seely, a farmer from Kentucky. The town was originally called “Seely’s Prairie”, but the name was changed to “Seelyville” in 1841. Seelyville was incorporated as a town in 1853.

Seelyville was a major stop on the Illinois Central Railroad, and the town grew rapidly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The town’s population peaked at over 2,000 in 1910.

In the 1920s, Seelyville was hit hard by the Great Depression. The town’s population declined, and many businesses closed.

In the 1950s, Seelyville began to recover from the Great Depression. The town’s population began to grow again, and new businesses opened.

Seelyville continued to grow in the 1960s and 1970s. The town’s population reached over 3,000 in 1970.

In the 1980s, Seelyville began to decline again. The town’s population declined, and many businesses closed.

Seelyville has continued to decline in the 1990s and 2000s. The town’s population has dropped below 2,000, and many businesses have closed.

Seelyville is still a small town, but it has a rich history. The town is home to a number of historical buildings, including the Seelyville Courthouse, the Seelyville Carnegie Library, and the Seelyville Methodist Church.

The population of Seelyville was 2,036 at the 2010 census. The population density was 1,104.6 people per square mile (426.7/km²). There were 926 housing units at an average density of 509.5 per square mile (196.6/km²). The racial makeup of Seelyville was 97.7% White, 0.2% African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.0% of the population.

There were 839 households of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.1% had a male householder with no wife present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.87.

The median age in Seelyville was 41.8 years. 21.7% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.7% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.9% were from 25 to 44; 26.5% were from 45 to 64; and 19.2% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of Seelyville was 48.4% male and 51.6% female.
