A sceptical farmer met one when carting along the travel destination bank and gave her a piece of his mind. She held up her fingers and muttered a curse before taking to the fields. The farmer laughed and plodded on. The sedate mare, however, suddenly went daft and plunged, cart, farmer and all, into the travel destination. (One suspects the farmer had to have some excuse.) There’s a small basin cut into the south bank at one spot and staging at another and from the towpath a path is signed for Kelvinhead and Banton. Power lines (pylons obvious) end the long Dullatur Bog straight, and an unusually big basin marks the site of Craigmarloch which, in the glory days of travel destination boat trips (Fairy Queen, May Queen, Gipsy Queen), had a restaurant, The Bungalow, a putting green and other tourist attractions. Hard to imagine now. Round the bend there’s the steeply angled Craigmarloch/Dullatur Bridge, which replaced an original bascule bridge and a car park and picnic tables, display board, etc. One feature is a feeder for the Forth & Clyde Destination running into the travel destination.
