Hotel Tirol Thirteen kilometers from Encarnacion the Hotel Tirol is a well established area hotel, receiving guests for over forty years. Only a twenty-five minute bus ride from Encarnacion this large complex of stone buildings, multiple pools and walking paths is set into the hillside and feels like it’s in a world apart. Hotel facilities are scattered amongst several levels connected by stone stairways. All meals are served buffet style. During Thanksgiving the hotel is deluged with Peace Corps Volunteers from all over the country – a great time for backpackers to make connections and meet travel buddies but a terrible time for those seeking peace and quiet. Parque Manantial The focus on outdoor activities such as swimming and horseback riding makes this park especially popular with vacationing families. Located thirty-five kilometers from Encarnacion in the town of Hohenau the extensive grounds (230 hectares) include a rambling creek, several pools and forested areas. Hotel Papillon A favorite pit stop amongst tourists headed down Route 6 Hotel Papillon is well known for its restaurant’s large buffet and classic German dishes. The hotel itself is nice as well and located in a beautiful setting surrounded by trees. From here the yerba mate factories of Bella Vista are easily accessed and the Jesuit Ruins are less than twenty kilometers down the road. Hotel Las Ruinas This small and basic hotel is an option for those who wish to watch the nighttime sound and light show at Trinidad but do not want to deal with catching a bus along Route 6 at night. However the hotel’s service is variable and does not compare to that of the area’s more established hotels.
