There are 1,100 parks, squares and playgrounds with a total area of 36.500 acres; 24 art museums, 13 history museums and 7 science museums, 400 galleries; 30departmentstores; 150 theatres; 3,500 churches. 28.000 restaurants, 100.000 first-class hotel rooms and 12.000 taxis.
About 4 million people ride the subway every day. Some 2.5 million catch a bus. The number of shops is well up in the thousands. More than 16 million people visit New York each year. 2 million of them from overseas.

The setting is Rancho Santa Rosa, home of Foley Estates Vineyard & Winery and part of the original 15,000-acre parcel granted by the Mexican government to former Presidio officer Francisco Cota’s ten children in 1845. Vintner Bill Foley, owner of Lincourt Vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley since 1994, had successfully produced varietals suited for the region’s warm climate. However, he hoped to establish a separate vineyard estate to focus on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and other varietals that would thrive in the limestone soils and cooling maritime effects of the Sta. Rita Hills appellation.
