The last upstairs room visited was sparsely furnished. Mari explained this is where Mark’s first wife stayed when she was very ill. His first wife had passed away at the hospital several years before and since then the room has remained empty.
From there, she took us to the basement. This section of the home was used as temporary storage for the antiques shop. Collections of interesting tables, paintings and other memorabilia were stacked here and there.
Matt turned to Mari and asked, “Where’s the skull?”
Making a little grimace, she pointed to a back room. “It’s in there.” After a slight pause, she added, “I don’t like it.”
Bev turned to Mari, “What kind of skull? Is it human?”
“I’m not sure, but I don’t think so. My husband got it somewhere. I told him to get rid of it, but it’s still here.”
We followed Matt to the small room and watched as he removed a box from a top shelf. Reaching in he pulled out a partial skull and slowly turned it in his hand.
