The Canadian Tractor Museum is home to the world’s largest working weather vane. Perched atop a base more than 18 metres high, a 1942 Case Model D tractor with large, red, scalloped steel wheels pivots as the nearly 18-metre-long arrow indicates wind direction. Inside the 2,000-square-metre museum you will find about 85 fully restored vintage tractorsmodels that are rotated from a collection of more than 200 unitsincluding steam engines, a 1906 Sawyer Massey, and a functional 1916 Rumely.

Guided and self-guided tours are available. Visit the first weekend in June to attend the Vintage Tractor and Machinery Show. Events include tractor pulls; threshing and plowing demonstrations; skill events such as a slow tractor race, blind tractor event, and tractor barrel race; a parade; and children’s activities, including a free barrel train and a pedal tractor pull.

With more than 6,000 items displayed in different theme rooms, you will need some time to visit the Westlock Pioneer Museum. The Community Institutes Room includes school, hospital, and store artifacts. A pioneer kitchen displays authentic dishes, linens, and cookware, while the pioneer living room and bedroom are decorated with handmade quilts, stunning antique wedding gowns, and a full porcelain wash set originally from England. Be sure to look at the detailed displays that explain how pioneers did laundry and made butter. The Lamp Room contains a beautiful 143-piece Aladdin kerosene lamp collection. It’s one of the largest of its kind in western Canada and contains a number of rare lamps. The phonograph and gramophone collection holds more than 200 items, dating as early as 1894. Don’t miss the 1912 nickel-plated Edison phonograph or wax cylinder recording of Thomas Edison’s voice, recorded shortly after World War I.

You will also see a vast assortment of farming tools and equipment, along with a splendidly restored 1920 McLaughlin automobile and rare wooden threshing machine. The Trueblood gun collection, named for the family that donated the firearms, contains 100 guns and numerous types of ammunition. The Mildred Hay doll collection includes 500 dolls, including composition and porcelain dolls. You will see dolls modelled after nursery rhymes, the Three Stooges, Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables, and many other characters, as well as Kewpies and Barbies. Browse or take a guided tour.
