With approximately 500 works of art. the Universitys art collections strength is an extensive collection of African American art including works by Catlett. Lawrence. Tanner, and Woodruff. Additional holdings include works by other representative American artists and a collection of African art and Africana. A portion of the collections is displayed regularly in the Catherine Waddell Gallery.

Located on the historic quadrangle of the Emory University campus, the Michael C. Carlos Museum has a permanent collection of some 16.000 objects including art from ancient Egypt. Greece. Rome, the Near East, the Americas, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and artworks on paper ranging from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. The Museum also offers special exhibitions of all periods drawn from its own holdings and from other institutions, both national and international.
