Activities: Temporary Exhibitions.
The Gallery provides a venue for artists and exhibitions that question aesthetic conventions and the role of the arts in society, addressing artistic and social issues that are often timely and provocative. The gallery encourages programming that crosses cultural boundaries and offers exhibition opportunities for emerging under-recognized and minority artists. The Guggenheim Gallery sponsors an annual schedule of exhibitions that includes four major shows of works by local, national and internationally known artists, two department-wide student shows, one at the end of each semester, as well as small group and solo shows for junior art majors and graduating seniors. The departmental show at the end of each semester is a student production from the initial call for entries, through the hanging, opening reception to. the final de-installation. Junior-year art majors exhibit their work in small group shows and seniors have individual exhibitions of their work. When the schedule allows, some of the department’s more ambitious students will mount shows of their most recent work.
