Crime and Scams :
There’s a large black market for dollar to Bolivars conversion. If you have a local guide, inquire about the black market for currency changing. Although the dollar is trading at a fixed rate of 1600 Bolivars, on the black market it trades for 2100-2500. Do not consider this unless you are 100% confident with whom you are dealing with, as they can exchange your dollars for fake play money and you’d never know.
There are some taxi scams here similar to Russia where they set you up for dangerous situations, and the rate and/or route is a joke. Utilize the Black SUV taxis from the airport to your hotel. A fixed rate of $12.
