The Mattatuck Museum possesses a rich collection featuring Connecticut fine and decorative arts, as well as exhibits dealing with the agricultural and industrial history of the state. The art collection includes works by John Trumbull, Erastus Salisbury Field, Ralph Earl, Ammi Phillips, Frederic Church J. F. Kensett, Maurice Prendergast, John Twachtman, Henry Ranger, Josef Albers, Alexander Calder. and Arshile Gorky, among others.

The Art Gallery presents exhibitions of works from its permanent collection. It is located in the new arts complex, which includes five exhibition galleries, expanded storage facilities, and a print study room.
