XIAOMEISHA BEACH PARK SHENZHEN

Xiaomeisha is Dameisha’s next door little brother. It is one of the first resort areas to be developed in Shenzhen as is evidenced by the dated Tiki theme in the Xiaomeisha Hotel. But it’s very pleasant and the beach has the reputation of being very clean. This is attributed to its being a paying $20 per visit beach which, according to popular belief, keeps out the unwashed. We like to stroll among the coconut palms along the beach.

The main attraction of the beach is the Sea World theme park not to be confused with the Sea World entertainment area found closer to town, in Shekou. To our mind this doesn’t quite come up to the standard of the other Shenzhen theme parks such as Happy Valley but it’s fine if you like dolphin shows.

Dolphins aren’t the only form of exotic life on display at the park. On our first visit during an icy February cold snap, we had been surprised at the large numbers of blonde good-looking women speaking something Slavic which we had observed strolling along the otherwise deserted wind-swept beach. It was something of a revelation when we saw them next day, under the name of Ukrainian Water Ballet, swimming gracefully amongst the tropical fish in large glass fronted tanks as young faces pressed eagerly against the glass.
