Together, the Irwin and Stewart Creek Greenways comprise 2.06 miles of trails that wind around Uptown. Like other greenways in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg parks system, these trails are built over buried sewer lines and on property that isn’t suitable for other uses. Portions of the greenway along Walnut and Summit Avenues run along an old railroad right-of-way. The paved and gravel greenways wind through Frazier Park, Seversville Park, the Wesley Heights neighborhood, and past Johnson and Wales University and are popular among runners, bicyclists, inline skaters, dog walkers, and skateboarders. It also connects with a designated bike route at 4th Street. Public art in front of Ray’s Splash Planet and the Children’s Memorial Walkway, a series of bricks that commemorate neighborhood children who have passed away, set the Irwin Creek and Stewart Creek Greenways apart from other trails in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg greenway system. Park at Ray’s Splash Planet to get to the trails.
