The summit of the Pinnacle Trail is the highest point in Gaston County. The views from 1,705 feet are worth the strenuous 1.7-mile trek to the top. On a clear day, it’s possible to see downtown Charlotte from the peak. There are 15 miles of trails throughout the park, including the Backside Trail, which requires climbing 334 steps to the top of Crowders Mountain. Construction of a new six-mile trail that will stretch to the South Carolina state line is in progress.

In December, a scheme for a Land Bank to issue notes backed by real estate is put forth in the Massachusetts General Court. Two French traders, Pierre and Paul Mallet, arrive in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Spanish colony, exploited by a cartel of Chihuahua merchants who control trade between New Mexico and Mexico, attempts to establish a connection with the French North Country trading network. The Spanish Crown will suppress this trade by 1753.
