It happens all the time: Restaurateurs travel abroad and get inspired to re-create back home the cuisine and atmosphere of their travels. Owners Jeff Tonidandel and Paul Manley decided to open Crepe Cellar after traveling to Europe. The NoDa eatery serves up everything from salads and pizza to steak and gnocchi but, as the name suggests, crepes are the main attraction. Try the Queen City crepe, a combination of roasted chicken, bacon, cheddar, and roasted tomato dressing wrapped in a paper-thin crepe, or make an entire meal out of the dessert crepes. It’ll be hard to choose between Nutella and bananas, sweetened mascarpone and berries, and brownies in a blanket, so go ahead and order more than oneyou won’t be the first to take this approach, and you’ll deserve a little extra nibble after waiting for a table. The small restaurant fills up fast, especially on the first and third Friday nights of the month when Gallery Crawl draws hundreds of hungry art lovers to the neighborhood.

The centerpiece of the meal is grilled beef: either top-block or tri-tip, a triangular cut of sirloin traditionally ground into hamburger. It is served with salsa, small savory pink beans calledpinquitos, green salad, and garlic bread.
