TRAVEL TO THE AUSTRIAN ALPS

SEVERIN’S – THE ALPINE RETREAT AUSTRIA

LECH, IN THE AUSTRIAN ALPS

Is the kind of exclusive ski resort in which you’d expect to find Prince Harry quaffing bucketfuls of vin chaud. It’s fitting, then, that new chalet hotel Severin*s is very swanky. Comprising nine huge suites and a private residence fit for any billion-dollar CEO (there are original Lichtenstein artworks on the walls and a self-playing grand piano), it’s a large slice of luxury in the picturesque mountains. And this is the place for adrenaline-fuelled days on fresh powder – from beautifully groomed pistes to gnarly mogul fields, there’s skiing to suit everyone (you can even indulge in a spot of nerve-jangling heli-skiing, if you’re that way inclined).

Off the slopes, tackle a vigorous mountain hike and you’ll witness some of the most dazzling alpine views around – or, if you really want a workout, hire a set of cross-country skis and get to grips with the craggy mountain pathways. When you’re completely spent, pop your ski boots into your personal (heated) locker and head straight to the subterranean spa to ease your aching joints in the steam room and high-tech infrared sauna. Evenings can be whiled away on your private terrace, gazing at the view with a lavender-infused gin and tonic in your hand, or holed up in the cosy fine-dining restaurant, where celebrated executive chef Stephan Kriegelstein serves up a multi- sensory eight-course tasting menu. Superb.
