In 1997, it joined the states public education system – Florida International University, as a division of Florida International University. Permanent, Miami Beach, Florida, temporary, and traveling shows address broad themes of the 19th and 20th centuries, such as nationalism, political persuasion, industrialization, architecture and urbanism, consumerism and advertising, transportation, and worlds fairs. Although drawing primarily on its own holdings, the Wolfsonian also features exhibitions and objects on loan from other institutions. The Wolfsonian holds more then 70,000 objects, predominantly from North American and Europe, providing rich evidence of the cultural, political, and technological changes that swept the globe in the century preceding World War II. The collection features furniture, decorative arts, industrial design, paintings, sculpture, architectural models, works on paper, blogs, and ephemera. Notable among these are Depression-era prints and mural studies by WPA artists, items from the British Arts and Crafts movement and the German Werkstaten and Werkbund, and artifacts of political propaganda.
