The main gallery. The Natalie and James Thompson Art Gallery, presents six exhibits annually of work by professional artists. Each year there are exhibits of contemporary design and history of art , a collaborative exhibition with other art institutions in the Bay Area, and a special exhibition and residency. In addition to the Thompson Gallery there are eight small student galleries. Included in this matrix is a special installation/performance space and small design gallery. There are additional exhibition spaces in cases throughout the Art Building. In most of the galleries, exhibits of student art work change weekly, resulting in over 160 exhibitions annually.

The University Gallery presents exhibitions of work in a wide variety media by nationally and internationally recognized artists, as well as artwork by students, alumni and faculty. Exhibitions are supplemented by other on-site programs. Also of possible interest on campus, the Galerie (756-1182) located in Room 221 of the University Union presents exhibitions featuring contemporary and historical works of art in a variety of media. .

The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens is an oasis of art and culture set amidst 150 acres of gardens.

Three art galleries and a library showcase collections of rare blogs and manuscripts. 18th- and 19th-century British and French art, and American art from the 18th- to the early 20th-century. The Huntington Gallery, originally the Huntington residence, contains a comprehensive collection of British and French art of the 18th-and I9th-centuries and hosts special changing exhibitions. The Virginia Steele Scott Gallery of American Art brings together American paintings from the 1730s to the 1930s, a permanent exhibition devoted to the work of early 20th-century Pasadena architects Charles and Henry Greene, as well as changing exhibitions. The Arabella Huntington Memorial Collection is housed in the west wing of the Library and features Renaissance paintings and 18th-century French sculpture, tapestries, porcelain, and furniture. Highlights include Gainsboroughs “Blue Boy”,

Lawrence’s “Pinkie”, the Ellesmere manuscript of Chaucers “Canterbury Tales” (c. 1410). a Gutenberg Bible on vellum (c. 1455), the double-elephant folio edition of Audubons “Birds of America”, and an extensive collection of early editions of Shakespeare.
